Whatcom County 42 Legistlative District Area

Washington state has 49 legislative districts. Each district elects one state senator and two representatives to the State Legislature in Olympia. The 42nd Legislative District includes the western half of Whatcom County.

What is the 42nd Legislative District Committee—GOP?

Legislative district committees are allowed to be established by county political parties under Washington state law. (RCW 42.17.020 and RCW 29A.80) The Whatcom County Republican Party established the 42nd Legislative District Committee—GOP.

Legislative District Committees may accept donations from individuals, PACS, corporations, unions and other entities within certain state law defined parameters. Individuals who contribute to the 42nd Legislative District have no limit in the amount they can give. This differs from the $800 limit individuals have when giving to candidates directly. Donors may NOT request that donations be given to a specific candidate. Corporations, unions, PACs and other entitites may give no more than $4000 in a calendar year as non-exempt funds. There is no contribution limit to legislative district committees for exempt donations. (NOTE: Non-exempt contributions from non-individual donors must be used for individual candidate support. During the election cycle, all county central committees and legislative district committees in the state share a combined contribution limit to each candidate of $.35 times the number of registered voters statewide as of the last general election.
